The Ups and Downs of Faith, Religion, and Well-being
Recognizing healthy and unhealthy uses of faith to meet life's challenges

Presented by Dr. Nathaniel Strenger, PsyD, Director of Clinical Advancement, The Center For Integrative Counseling and Psychology

Gain a more advanced understanding of how different forms of religious activities and mindsets can impact one's mental health. The clinical consultation room is rarely, if ever, devoid of all spiritual or religious language. Ministry settings, more and more, are attentive to the mental health of parishioners and others.

We will discuss what scientific research says about the different styles of "religious coping" and their associated mental health outcomes, positive and negative.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain knowledge to better detect when a client/parishioner is talking about the religious coping strategies they are currently using.
  • Learn what the growing body of literature has to say about religious coping strategies, their impact on mental health outcomes, and the ways they show up in clinical work.
  • Develop new ways of assessing and discussing religious coping from the perspectives of both religious ministry and mental health care.

A light breakfast will be provided.
All sales are final.
