Always having a passion for teaching, Ryan started his professional career teaching at both public and private schools in New York State. Ryan eventually wanted to concentrate on teaching in the church, so he attended seminary in Philadelphia and then joined the staff of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in NYC. After several years in the Big Apple, Ryan assumed the senior leadership role at Rockwall Presbyterian Church.

Matthew chapter 25, with its emphasis on the hungry, thirsty, stranger, naked, and prisoner, and James's emphasis on the widow and orphan, have always been important landmarks for Ryan's journey. These priorities played out in serving the poor in Rockwall County, partnering with several projects in India, and currently in his role as a chaplain at Children's Medical Center.

"I have three teenagers, and my hobbies on most weeknights include persuading them to finish homework or managing a bit of drama," says Ryan. "I am passionate about reading and learning, particularly as such activities pertain to pursuing answers to the bigger questions of life. I like to work out, but find myself moving slower and slower as time marches on. I enjoy long walks with my wife and a good fire."
