Philosophy

I like to ensure my clients feel safe and understood. Being entrusted with someone’s story is an honor and privilege. The healing process is dependent on being in a safe place where clients are heard and not judged, so they can decide how they would like to proceed and be perceived on their continued journey of life.

Shermelia has a passion for the success of others that has been demonstrated from childhood peer tutoring to an adulthood in education and mental health support. Her work with at-risk youth was a primary motivation for getting her MS in Counseling but, as she matriculated at UNT the need for mental health support and advocacy appeared in almost any environment from unprocessed grief, rejection, abandonment, to low self-value, and hopelessness. She’s noted the state of someone’s spiritual health can be a huge indicator of the state of their emotional and mental health.

Shermelia is a lifelong Dallasite that knows what it feels like to celebrate a Dallas Cowboys’ Super Bowl win. She enjoys outreach with her church. She enjoys being a mom to her 2 bright kids. And if she’s on vacation, it’s likely to be out in nature near a lake or ocean.
