Philosophy

I see counseling as a unique space to explore the experiences that shaped you, the future you hope to achieve, and the ways you may feel stuck in patterns of life today. Behind those frustrating feelings, such as “Why do I keep doing this thing?” and “Why am I like this?”, there may be parts of you that have never before been brought to light or put into words. I may ask you questions that challenge you to take a deeper dive into who you are and perhaps discover new avenues for who you may become.

I welcome working with people of all cultures, backgrounds, religious faiths, LGBTQIA+ identities, and personal styles of relating. My style is collaborative, exploratory, and non-directive; I believe that by broadening our understanding who we really are and what our choices truly mean to us, we may rediscover our ability to direct our own lives with clarity, confidence, and purpose.

Walter received a Bachelors in Psychology and a clinical Masters in Psychology from the University of Dallas, specializing in longer-term psychodynamic therapy designed to treat people in-depth and holistically.

Walter has experience working in university counseling, private practice, and in-patient hospitals. During graduate school, Walter spent time counseling young adults on their journey through college and into their lives beyond, helping them to reflect on their upbringing, their desires for the future, and their sense of place in the world.

Walter continues to conduct research in psychology, cultural studies, and philosophy, exploring how to integrate the long-standing insights of psychology with the rapid changes happening in the world today. In their personal life, Walter values spending time with family and friends, traveling, enjoying the outdoors, and tinkering in the garage.
